Government Hits Back At NDC Over Failed Manifesto Promises

Published

on

The ruling New Patriotic Party has hit back at the Opposition National Democratic Congress over claims that the ruling party has only achieved about 14% of its manifesto promises.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Monday 15th June 2020, Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah described the claims by the NDC as distortion of facts, “one that the leading opposition party is engaging in to serve their own parochial partisan interest”.

Mr Nkrumah slammed the opposition party for parading dishonesty about the current state of affairs.

“As we get into the 2020 national conversation period, one of the narratives that the NDC seek to carve is a narrative of dishonesty and in order to give life or credence to that narrative, they have to create scenarios that if indeed we made 388 promises, they will find some ways of adding some 235 and claim that we made 631 and in the end say therefore that we have been dishonest”

He said part of the NDC strategy is to increase the NPP’s promises from 388 to 631 to enable the opposition party make a claim of dishonesty against the Akufo-Addo administration.

“They make this argument because what they seek is to downplay our achievement as a country and as a people” he stressed.

The NDC in the third edition of their weekly press conference earlier today rated the governing NPP 14 percent in their manifesto promises prior to the 2016 general elections.  The press conference which was led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described government’s accomplishment of its promises as woeful.

Responding to the claims, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah who is also Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi stated that “what they have always forgotten is that if Ghana succeeds, and the Government of Ghana, regardless of which administration is in power, gets the credit, it insures to the benefit of all Ghanaians including them. When Ghanaian leadership is respected and appreciated across the continent or the world, they too, regardless of their partisan political colour benefit from the collateral credit.”

The minister however admonished that despite this year being an election year, the country should be focused on conversations that will help bring development.

“We are clear in our minds that this year being an election year, despite the expectation that our attention as a nation even on politics should be focused on leadership in times of crisis, it comes as no surprise that the group will resort to such attempts. We do not believe that Ghana’s progress record should be undermined in those attempts to be partisan. Government assures the people of Ghana to set and defend the nation’s record of growth straight even in this trying times” he added.

Seven JHS Students who were allegedly bused by a tutor Bismark Okyere to register in the Asawase Constituency have been arrested after protests from NDC polling agents.

One student was first arrested when he was spotted in a queue attempting to register. The student upon sensing danger following the anger of the NDC supporters at the registration center attempted to run but luck eluded him when he was apprehended.

The timely intervention of the Incumbent NDC MP for the Area, Muntaka Mubarak prevented what would have been an unfortunate lynching by the vigilant NDC agents.

The student then confessed he was bused to the registration center by his teacher with 20 other final year students. He quickly pointed 6 other students who were already in queue to register. They were also arrested.

Auditor General Replies Akufo Addo, Says His Work is Embarrassing the Gov’t

Published

Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo has in a statement responded to the directive by President Akufo Addo to take his accumulated annual leave.

According to Mr Domelevo, the directive is a response to the embarrasment his work is causing the government.

The statement, copied to the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, Yao Domelevo said the decision to instruct him to go on leave was not taken in good faith as there are other appointees who have equally not gone on leave either.

“I think it is necessary, however, to bring to the attention of the high office of the President a few matters relevant to our constitutional governance, due process and the rule of law,” the statement read.

The auditor general noted that he’s simply following the directive out of the respect he has for the Office and the President.

In response to handing over all matters relating to his office to the Deputy Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu until his return from his “well-deserved leave,” Mr Domelovo said that has serious implications for the constitutional independence of the Auditor-General.

He further urged President Akufo Addo to reconsider his directive in order to protect the sanctity of the labour law, the constitution and the independence of the Auditor General.

Don’t Believe Mahama Has Anything Good For The Country – NPP Chairman

Published

on

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) first Vice Chairman for the Asokwa Constituency, Edmund Kyei has told Ghanaians not to pay heed to any promises of former president John Mahama.

According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer has nothing new to offer the nation as he’s already had his chance.

Speaking on Wontumi television/radio, Mr Kyei said, “Ghanaians should not make a mistake into believing that Mr. Mahama and his NDC have anything good for the country. They destroyed everything and should not be brought back. Don’t vote for him and his party because they will come back to do the same things that sent them out.”

Edmund Kyei further emphasized that John Mahama’s admininstration made Ghana retrogressed for which reason he must not be entertained anymore.

Mr. Mahama and the NDC were only good at corruption, scandals and mismanagement when they stayed in political office for eight years. Also, the incompetent NDC collapsed businesses with the prolonged power crisis, popularly known as ‘dumsor’. Mahama is incompetent!” he fired.

The NPP man expressed confidence in President Akufo Addo retaining his incumbency come December elections.
