All roads in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, are set to lead to the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, May 12, 2024. This grand gathering marks the 25th anniversary of the ascension of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to the illustrious throne of the Asante Kingdom. The occasion promises to be historic as it will witness the rare public display of the sacred Golden Stool, revered as the embodiment of the spirit and soul of the Asante people.

Nana Otuo Serebuor II, the Paramount Chief of Juaben and Chairman of the Otumfuo 25 Years Planning Committee, revealed that the decision to unveil the Golden Stool to the public was made to elevate the significance of the anniversary. He emphasized that while the Golden Stool rarely emerges from its sanctified confines, this special occasion warrants its public appearance to magnify the commemoration.

According to oral tradition, the Golden Stool was manifested from the heavens by the esteemed fetish priest, Komfo Anokye, during the nascent stages of the Asante Kingdom approximately four centuries ago. Joining the Golden Stool in the public display will be other historic artifacts of Asanteman, some of which trace their origins back over four centuries, adding to the cultural richness of the event.

Dignitaries from both national and international spheres are expected to grace the occasion. Among them are His Excellency President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Bawumia, First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Second Lady Samira Bawumia, and Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. The presence of international guests, including Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago and representatives from King Mohammed VI of Morocco and President Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast, underscores the global significance of the event.

Security measures have been heightened to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the proceedings. With the attendance of prominent traditional leaders from across the nation, the grand durbar promises to be a convergence of cultural heritage, historical significance, and esteemed dignitaries.

The commemorative event not only celebrates the remarkable reign of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II but also reaffirms the enduring legacy of the Asante Kingdom, its rich cultural heritage, and its esteemed position in the global community. As the Asantehene continues to lead his people with wisdom and dignity, the grand durbar serves as a testament to the enduring spirit and unity of the Asante people under his benevolent rule.
