In a poignant display of frustration and despair, Goasomanhene, Nana Akwasi Bosompra, broke down in tears as he decried the neglect of his region in terms of development during a visit by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

The paramount chief, visibly emotional, highlighted the dire state of the roads in his jurisdiction, attributing the perceived neglect to the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government. Nana Bosompra specifically pointed to the deteriorating conditions of key roads such as Goaso to Tepa, Hwidiem to Kenyasi, Gambia Number 1 to Number 2, and Bediako.

“Today look at Goaso to Tepa road, Hwidiem to Kenyasi road, look at Gambia Number 1 to Number 2 roads, as for Bediako, the least said the better. These roads are all spoilt, so who caused this?” he questioned, visibly distressed.

The chief went on to express personal health complications resulting from the dusty roads in front of the palace, emphasizing the adverse effects on the well-being of the community. He lamented the delays in awarding contracts for necessary road projects, describing the situation as a “ping pong issue.”

“I told the president that because of dust, all my gods have abandoned us. Dust is the reason I am almost getting an ailment in the head. What crime have we committed as Ahafo State? I speak out of pain, why?” he added, his voice reflecting the frustration of his people.

Nana Bosompra further highlighted the irony of the Ahafo Region’s electoral allegiance to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), with six districts, of which only two belong to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He questioned the plight of his region despite their consistent support for the ruling party.

“Our road is critical to transporting cocoa, yet today our trees are being felled by Burkinabes exposing our houses to vagaries of the weather, what is our crime? When we complain too, we are being gagged,” he exclaimed, tears almost rolling down his cheeks.

The emotional moment prompted the intervention of a palace staff who shielded the teary chief from the public eye. Nana Akwasi Bosompra shared his grievances during a courtesy call by the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, as part of his Building Ghana Tour on Wednesday, November 22. The incident underscores the pressing need for attention and development in the Ahafo Region.
