In a ceremony marked by grandeur and significance, Yagbonwura Bikunuto Jewu, the esteemed Overlord of Gonjaland, conferred upon the Vice-President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the prestigious title of “Konukolewura” or “Chief of Unity.” The ceremony, held at the royal palace in Gonjaland, served as a testament to Dr. Bawumia’s dedicated efforts in fostering unity within the Gonja Kingdom.

“Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to unity has been exemplary throughout his political career. He has consistently demonstrated the qualities of a true leader, fostering harmony and inclusiveness. It is with great pleasure that we confer upon him the title of ‘Konukolewura’ or ‘Chief of Unity’ in the Gonja Kingdom,” stated Yagbonwura.

In response, Vice-President Dr. Bawumia expressed deep gratitude and humility for the honor bestowed upon him. He pledged to continue working tirelessly to promote unity, prosperity, and development within the Gonja Kingdom and across the nation.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to receive the title of ‘Konukolewura’ from the revered Yagbonwura. Unity is the bedrock of progress, and I will remain steadfast in my commitment to fostering harmony and inclusivity among all Ghanaians. I express my heartfelt appreciation for this recognition and assure you that I will continue to strive for the betterment of our great nation,” said Dr. Bawumia.

In a notable gesture, Vice-President Bawumia offered to renovate the Jakpa Palace, the seat of the Gonja Kingdom, which is currently unoccupied due to its deteriorated state. He reaffirmed his loyalty and dedication to Yagbonwura, describing himself as the Overlord’s son since his days as Tulewura.

The Yagbonwura, in turn, blessed Dr. Bawumia and assured him of his prayers in his quest to become the President of the nation.

As part of a tour expressing gratitude for support during the NPP primaries, Dr. Bawumia’s journey through the northern regions has taken him to Nalerigu, Tamale, Yendi, Bimbilla, Saboba, and Damongo. The chieftaincy title, “Konukolewura,” solidifies Dr. Bawumia’s influential role in promoting unity and inclusivity, reflecting the trust placed in him by the people of Gonjaland.

The vibrant celebration that followed the conferment demonstrated the joy and solidarity of Gonjaland citizens, united in witnessing the recognition of their Vice-President’s remarkable achievements. Many have called for the replication of Dr. Bawumia’s leadership qualities in fostering unity, particularly in diverse societies where there is a Muslim and Christian relationship.
