Former President John Rawlings has revealed that, in as much as Ghanaians accepted the Multi-Party Democracy in 1992, they were still not in favour of the governance system.
According to him, Ghanaians wanted the Military rule because it allowed for accountability and integrity which came naturally at the time and that was what the people of Ghana wanted.
“One day, I’m going to have to tell this country that when we had to go to Multi-Party the truth was that the people didn’t want it” when asked if he wanted it he said ” No I didn’t want it…Now look at what it does? The division, the animosity, people take advantage of whatever”.
He added that, during the military rule, the level of accountability and integrity came naturally
“It was easier in one respect, the level of integrity, accountability and others came naturally from all of us. It was something our people yearned for because it gives you peace of mind and I think its been something we’ve been craving for a long time.”
