Ending Galamsey Shall Surely Come To Pass – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo in reiteriating his commitment to the fight against the illegal mining (galamsey), has indicated that his government will surely make the menace a thing of the past.

According to the president, his government’s efforts in the fight of galamsey is unprecedent in the country’s history.

“We are here to eradicate galamsey and surely, it would be eradicated. No government has shown that resilience in the fight against galamsey,” the president indicated.

He made these remarks when he paid a courtesy call to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, October 16, 2022on as part of his four-day working visit to the Ashanti Region.

He also extended his visit to Subin, Manhyia South, Ejisu, Konongo and Oforikrom and inspected ongoing work on the Boankra Inland Port project, which is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2024.
He also commissioned the 60-bed Asante Akim Municipal Hospital; inspected ongoing work on the Oforikrom Municipal Hospital under Agenda 111; and commissioned the 330kb Kumasi-Bolgatanga Power Transmission Project.

The NPP government who has shown some commitment to eradicate the illegal mining arrested suspected Chinese illegal miner Aisha Huang and her accomplices who are facing the court for violating the country’s mining laws.

Notwithstanding, the District Chief Executive for Bosome Freho in the Ashanti Region, Yaw Danso, who is under investigation over his involvement in illegal mining has been suspended.
