ECG To Increase Charges From Today

The Energy Company of Ghana (ECG) will impose new rates on electricity consumers on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, unless there are any last-minute amendments.

According to a memo circulated among EGC employees, the corporation will charge a whopping GH1, 020.00 for a single phase meter, up from the current GH400.00.

The “new service connection prices,” according to the circular, are all VAT/NHIL inclusive and have been approved by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

It’s unclear why all of the stakeholders have remained silent on the fees, as if they’re hoping to catch consumers off guard.

Meter replacement for both 1-phase and 3-phase is the only thing on the new list that is available for free.

New customers who want a three-phase meter will have to pay GH1,920 instead of the existing GH700.

A single pole extension for single phase now costs $2,920, while a three-phase extension costs $4,420.00.

A two-pole extension costs $4,520.00.

Straight service with pole, separate meter, post SHEP straight, and additional load are included on the list.

The temporary power supply costs GHC800 for single-phase and GHC1,500.00 for three-phase.
