A Plus Officially Launches Campaign For Gomoa Central Seat

Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A-Plus, has officially launched his campaign to become the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central in the Central Region. The launch, held in the vibrant township of Gomoa Ekwamkrom, marks a significant milestone in the musician-turned-politician’s journey towards parliamentary representation.

A-Plus announced his intention to run as an independent candidate on September 25, 2023, during the burial service of his father, Daniel Kwasi Obeng, in Winneba. The announcement was met with considerable attention, setting the stage for today’s event.

The streets of Gomoa Ekwamkrom were abuzz with excitement as dozens of supporters thronged to witness the launch. Videos from the event capture a lively atmosphere, with an entourage of cars and enthusiastic supporters lining the streets. A-Plus, engaging warmly with the crowd, was seen interacting with several dignitaries and receiving cheers from his backers.

Among the notable attendees was Harold Roger Quartey, a renowned movie director and the head of production at UTV. Quartey’s presence underscored the cross-industry support that A-Plus has garnered, reflecting his influence beyond the music and political spheres.

A-Plus, who has previously been a vocal supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has since turned into one of its most outspoken critics. His disappointment with the current administration’s governance has fueled his determination to contest the seat as an independent candidate. He aims to bring a fresh perspective and untainted governance to the constituents of Gomoa Central.

In his campaign speech, A-Plus expressed confidence in his ability to win the seat and emphasized his commitment to serving the people of Gomoa Central. “I believe in the power of the people and the change we can create together. I am here to be your voice and to fight for the progress and development of our community,” he stated passionately.

A-Plus faces a formidable opponent in the incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, who represents the NPP. Despite the challenges of running as an independent candidate, A-Plus’s grassroots appeal and his strong stance on accountability and transparency resonate with many voters.

His campaign promises to be a blend of creative engagement and substantive policy discussions, reflecting his unique background as a former Hip-Life artist and a social commentator. As the election season progresses, all eyes will be on Gomoa Central to see if A-Plus can indeed become the first independent candidate to secure a seat in Ghana’s Parliament by 2025.
