The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is reportedly considering Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as Kwame A Plus, for the role of 2nd Deputy Speaker in Ghana’s next Parliament.
The Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central, who contested as an independent candidate, made headlines after defeating both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and NDC candidates in the December 7 elections. He garnered 14,277 votes, decisively surpassing the NPP’s Naana Eyiah Quansah, who secured 11,637 votes, and the NDC’s Yawson Mohamed, who trailed with 10,112 votes.
Kwame A Plus, renowned for his vocal critiques of the outgoing NPP government and his appearances as a social commentator on UTV’s United Showbiz programme, has expressed gratitude for the potential appointment. Speaking to News Outlet, MyNewsGH, he described the consideration as a significant milestone in his political journey.
“Even the rumour or consideration alone is a great honour, given my background,” he remarked, adding that he has not yet received formal communication about the matter.
If appointed, the outspoken MP-elect would bring his independent and critical perspective to a pivotal parliamentary role, further bolstering his influence in shaping the legislative agenda of Ghana’s 9th Parliament.
