It has emerged that founder of the National Democratic Congress, former President Jerry John Rawlings is scheduled to deliver an address at the National Delegates Conference of the National Democratic Party, the party founded by his own wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
Mr Rawlings, who has assumed a significantly passive role in the party he founded himself, the opposition National Democratic Congress ever since he fell out with the hierarchy during the reign of the late Professor J.E.A Mills, is expected to be a guest speaker at the event to outdoor his wife, Nana Konadu as flagbearer of the NDP for the 2020 Election.
Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, herself a very active founding member of the NDC, shockingly announced the formation of the NDP as part of the opposition to the NDC’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, for the 7 December 2012 presidential election.
The NDP was announced on 6 July 2012 by its interim General Secretary, Manboah Rockson, and was said to be born out of dissatisfaction with the NDC, which had often been personified by the Rawlingses and their supporters.
Even though the NDC has tried in the past to reconcile with their founder, Mr Rawlings has persistently chastized the party for departing from its core ideals of probity and accountability.
In a photo circulating on social media, Mr Rawlings is expected to grace the occassion of the NDP’s National Delegates Conference as a guest speaker.
