Families Of Techiman South Election Shooting Victims Accuse NDC Of Using Their Deceased For Political Mileage

In a recent press conference held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, the grieving families and victims of the tragic 2020 Election shooting incident in the Techiman South Constituency have accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its parliamentary candidate of meddling in their pursuit of justice. The families particularly criticized the opposition party for allegedly politicizing the unfortunate event for its own gain.

The families asserted that the NDC’s involvement in their affairs has not only hindered their quest for justice but has also included false claims of financial and material support. They accused the NDC of exploiting the incident for political mileage, asserting that the party’s actions, including taking the matter to court, have only served to prolong their suffering.

During the press conference, the families emphasized their discontent with the continuous reference to the incident, expressing a desire for their deceased family members to rest in peace. They issued a stern warning to the NDC and its parliamentary candidate, urging them to refrain from further politicization of the matter and to respect the memories of the victims.

“We are not happy about the constant reference to this issue, and it’s about time we let our fallen family members have a peaceful rest. We need to show some respect to their memories,” stated the families and victims in a joint statement.

The families categorically denied receiving any form of support from the NDC’s 2020 and 2024 parliamentary candidate for Techiman South, refuting claims of financial and material assistance. They attributed the loss of their family members to the candidate’s political ambitions and emphasized the absence of support since the incident occurred.

As a legal battle for compensation, amounting to GHC 25 million, is pending before the court, the families cautioned all parties involved to refrain from interference, allowing them to find solace and closure. The tragic incident, which unfolded during the collation of Parliamentary election results in December 2020, resulted in the loss of two lives and injuries to several others as a confrontation erupted between NDC supporters and the police.
