Journalists Should Not Be Doing The Work Of The FBI – MFWA Boss Rejects Anas’ Entrapment Methods

Mr. Sulemana Braimah, MFWA

Executive Director of the Media Foundation for west Africa, Sulemana Braimah has rejected the investigative methods of award-winning undercover journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

There are many Ghanaians including maverick MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong who have accused Anas of entrapping his victims and leading them to commit offenses.

Mr. Braimah has always been of the opinion that the methods employed by Anas does not conform to proper journalistic standards.

Speaking on Joy FM Newsfile last saturday, Mr. Braimah reiterated his criticism of Anas’ journalistic methods, insisting that journalism should not be used to facilitate the commission of crimes in the name of investigative journalism.

“Should journalists be resorting to acts of soliciting the commission of crime or bad conduct by targets and be presenting the conduct prompted by their solicitation as a piece of ethical, independent journalistic investiations under the guise of sting operations? No. Leave that to the NIB, MI5 or FBI,” Sulemana Braimah posited.

“Whether through undercover, subterfuge, deception, sting or whatever nice name we may choose to call it, a journalist cannot and must not be an actor, co-creator or manufacturer of an event, act or incident; record same and present to the public as a journalistic investigative piece of work. No, that cannot be acceptable in journalism,” he wrote in 2018.
