$354k And $500k Costs Of Houses In Ghana Expensive, Find Ways To Build Cheap Houses – Akufo-Addo To Construction Industry

The cost of housing in Ghana is high, according to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. As a result, he has encouraged members of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry to come up with new ideas to ensure that the country produces more affordable housing for its citizens, noting that housing in Ghana has mainly become a monopoly of the wealthy.

Mr Akufo-Addo stated at a meeting with members of the Ghana Chamber of Construction that the government and the private sector must work together to address Ghana’s housing shortage.

“I heard a little three-bedroom house in East Legon in Ghana costs between $354,000 and $500,000.” In many locations of the United States, mansions are available for that price. Because the materials used for construction in the UK are local and extremely cheap, you can buy a pretty well-appointed home for between $100,000 and $200,000.”

“We need to figure out how to build strong, inexpensive houses in the country,” he added.

In the meanwhile, Ghana’s government is putting a premium on cheap housing.

The Ghana Statistical Service delivered the final five volumes of the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) at the Accra International Conference Centre on Thursday, February 24, 2022. The announcement was co-chaired by Mrs. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, and Francis Asenso-Boakye (MP), Minister of Works and Housing, whose sectors statistics were provided in three of the five reports released.

“The Ministry of Works and Housing will engage further with the Statistical Service on the preparation of analytical studies that will strive to answer policy-relevant research issues for the housing sector,” Francis Asenso-Boakye noted. “The Government of Ghana is prioritizing access to affordable housing for Ghanaian citizens,” he added. In this regard, he asked the private sector to “make greater use of this rich data in their decision-making in order to better fulfill the population’s housing needs.”
