The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to relocate President Akufo-Addo’s statue from its current position at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi to Kyebi, his hometown in the Eastern Region. This initiative was disclosed by Richard Ted Mensah, the NDC’s Director of Communications for the Western Region, who noted that the statue has been a source of unease for some local residents.
According to Mensah, the statue’s location in a dusty area, with surrounding roads untarred, detracts from its intended purpose of honoring the President. He suggested that relocating the statue to Kyebi, where it could be better appreciated and maintained, would be a more fitting tribute. He emphasized that the NDC, if elected, would prioritize this relocation to ensure the statue serves its intended purpose in a more respectful setting.
“The statue would serve a greater purpose in Kyebi, where it would be more appreciated,” Mensah explained, adding that the Western Region, despite its resource contributions, faces persistent issues with infrastructure and road quality. He highlighted the need for focused development efforts in the area.
Mensah shared his views on Neat FM during an interview with Mac-Jerry Osei Agyemang, stressing the NDC’s commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges in the Western Region as well as ensuring more appropriate locations for public monuments.
