Teshie Youth Threaten To Spray Police With Faeces Over ‘Homowo’ Ban

Some youth of Teshie in the Greater Accra Region have clashed with the Police on Tuesday August 11, after they were prevented from having mass gathering in anticipation of this year’s Homowo festival.

Reporting on Accra FM, Samuel Thompson told host of the morning show, Kwabena Prah that the youth had teemed up Tuesday morning for their annual ‘jama’ parade which has always been part of the homowo festivities.

However, the police who had been stationed there stopped them from the parade. This annoyed the youth who started pelting stones at the police and further threatened to spray them with faecal matter in black polythene.

Teshie Mantse, Gbetsoolo Nii Ashsitey Akomfra III, had earlier announced that the LEKMA Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has placed a temporary ban on the festival in the area.

He however, added that “the traditional authorities will be allowed to carry out some of the very essential rites for the period with the annual ban on drumming and noise making taking effect from  Monday, August 10 to Saturday, September 5, 2020 “but there will be no outdoor Homowo activities throughout the entire period.”
