Two residents of Bole, both prominent figures in the NPP, Bole Constituency are currently fighting for their lives after reportedly being assaulted by military operatives at an illegal mining site in the Bole District. The incident, which has sparked significant public outrage, is said to have occurred in an area known for its illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as “Galamsey.”
Local sources indicate that the military personnel were dispatched to the area by the Savannah Regional Minister. The victims, including Yakubu Mahama, the Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, are receiving medical treatment at the Bole Government Hospital.
Witnesses claim that military operatives are frequently deployed to safeguard Chinese miners who are also engaged in illegal mining operations in Bole. The altercation reportedly began when Yakubu Mahama, who is himself involved in Galamsey, confronted the military personnel. This confrontation escalated, leading to Mahama and another individual being severely beaten by the military.
Following the incident, a group of agitated youth from Bole gathered at the Bole Police Station, where the victims were taken by the military. In response to the growing unrest, military officers fired warning shots in an attempt to disperse the crowd.
The situation remains tense as residents and local authorities call for an investigation into the conduct of the military personnel involved and the broader issues surrounding illegal mining in the region.
