Road Accidents: Police Goes After Okada Riders
The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has rolled out a new initiative to check indiscipline, especially on the part of motorcycle users on the road.
It comes after Prof Alex Dodoo, the director general of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) revealed about 50% of road crashes in Ghana can be attributed to commercial motorbikes, popularly known as “Okada“.
Dubbed Police Action Against Rider Indiscipline (PAARI), the initiative will deploy a team of police riders with body camera to monitor the conduct of riders at major intersections and strategic locations in the country to arrest offenders.
A statement issued by the police on Thursday (8 April) said the initiative will be rolled out in phases.
