Report:13 To 15 -Year-Olds Resort To Prostitution In Ghana [Video]

Information reaching this portal has it that, girls between the ages of 13 and 15 are currently participating in prostitution in Sekondi, Ghana’s Western Region, according to residents.

At the Sekondi Railway Station, young girls as young as ten years old are actively involved in commercial sex-work, this portal has learned.

According to some locals in the railway region, this act is unacceptable, and something needs to be done to address the community’s prostitution problem. They further stated that the act is gaining traction in the community, and that the majority of the village’s girls are engaging in it since it is lucrative.

In an interview with Skyy Power Fm’s Kojo Brace, STMA’s Public Relations Officer, John Last, said it’s sad that such an issue is arising in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) is aware of the problem and is taking efforts to guarantee that these young females stop abusing each other and are expelled from the area.

He also stated that they have not paid much attention to the problem owing to the Market Circle vendors’ move, but that once they are finished, the train station where the girls are housed would be dismantled and turned into a market. He went on to say that they have information on another group of teenage females participating in commercial sex work in the Takoradi Kokompe region and other parts of the Metropolis. He stated that when they begin their activities, all of these locations will be cleaned.

“These places have been planned out and are part of the exercise we’re going to perform,” he explained. The exercise entails dispatching security personnel to these locations, detaining offenders, and ensuring that their constructions are demolished.”
