A female officer of the Paga unit was shot and killed in Bawku in the Upper East Region, according to police.

Over the weekend, there were reports of intermittent fatal shootings in the conflict-prone town, prompting the Defense Ministry to enforce a curfew.

Constable Regina Angenu made a visit to Constable Erasmus Enkson at the Bawku Division of the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) on Saturday, January 22 at 5:05pm, according to a police release issued on Monday, January 24.

“They were attacked by unknown intruders on their way to Const. Enkson’s barracks, and the policewoman was shot in the groin.”

She was brought to the Presbyterian Mission Hospital for treatment, but she died there.

According to reports, the body was taken to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital “for preservation and autopsy.”

The status of Const. Enkson was not mentioned in the press statement.

As a result of the shooting occurrences, the police presence in Bawku has been increased.
