The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in Techiman, Bono East Region. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, December 2, 2024, as the Asantehene returned from a funeral in Nkoranza.

According to preliminary police reports, a group of youth believed to be from Techiman allegedly threw stones at buses within the Asantehene’s convoy. The disruption has raised concerns about security and respect for traditional authority.

Police Statement

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service confirmed their collaboration with the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and stakeholders in Techiman to gather facts and address the situation.

“We are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation into this matter. We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate fully with the ongoing inquiries,” the statement read.

Calls for Calm

The police have appealed for calm, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. Stakeholders in both Techiman and Kumasi have expressed willingness to assist in resolving the issue amicably.

As investigations continue, the police assured the public of their dedication to maintaining law and order while protecting the dignity of Ghana’s revered traditional institutions.
