Ibrahim Adjei, former Assistant Secretary to ex-President Akufo-Addo, has stated that medical complications—not defiance—are preventing former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from appearing before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as scheduled. His remarks come amid public scrutiny following the OSP’s directive for Ofori-Atta to report in person on Monday, June 2, or risk extradition proceedings.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Adjei dismissed claims that Ofori-Atta is evading the summons, emphasizing that health concerns are the sole reason for his absence. He noted that Ofori-Atta’s legal representatives have submitted medical records to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court, detailing his condition and upcoming surgical procedures.
On Sunday, June 1, the OSP issued a stern warning that failure to comply with the summons would result in Ofori-Atta being relisted as a wanted person and declared a fugitive from justice. The office also threatened to initiate an INTERPOL Red Notice, an international alert for locating and arresting individuals for extradition.
Meanwhile, Ofori-Atta has reportedly requested a virtual meeting with the OSP due to his ongoing medical treatment. The situation remains under close watch as legal and health considerations intersect in this high-profile case.
