‘I Didn’t Snatch Hohoe Seat From NDC Because Of Money’ – Amewu Explains How He Made History By Winning Hohoe Seat

MP for Hohoe, Honorable John Peter Amewu has refuted claims that he was able to snatch the seat from the NDC because he pumped enough money into his campaign.

Since December 7th 2020, when it emerged that the NPP had managed to snatch the Hohoe seat from the NDC’s famed “world bank”, there have been theories and claims that this feat was possible because of the excessive pumping of cash as inducements to voters.

Some have even alleged that the NPP’s winning candidate, John Peter Amewu used his position as Minister of State in charge of Power at the time to influence voters to vote for him through juicy monetary offers.

However, Mr. Amewu refutes the allegations in no uncertain terms.

According to him, he didn’t win because of money but largely because the elephant party is loved by people in the Hohoe constituency. He stated that Hohoe was a strong United Party (UP) area. The UP was the main opposition party in the First Republic of Ghana. It was the only opposition party throughout its existence from 1957 until 1964 when Ghana became a one party state under Kwame Nkrumah.

Mr. Amewu explains that his previous position as a DCE in the Area, which allowed him to touch base with the people also helped him tremendously in gaining the trust of his people.
