Government To Introduce Farming As Part Of National Service – Abraham Dwumo Odoom [Video]

A former deputy local Government Minister, Hon. Abraham Dwumo Odoom, has revealed government is set to introduce farming as part of National Service to reduce youth unemployment in the country.

Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Wontumi TV, Hon Odoom pointed out that national service secretariat has designed a program to boost young people’s interest in farming.

Hon. Odoom said, ‘’we have taken 50,000 acres of land at Kumawu to ignite young people’s interest in nucleus farming through national service. 20,000 acres of the same land will be used for  aqua culture, poultry and small ruminants. The droppings of these animals will be used as fertilizers for the farms. I did a test with a poultry farm at Manso Akropong and the result on a maize farm owned by a teacher was highly positive’’.

He went on to say that ”we had a meeting with some key stakeholders and we discussed our plans and how we intend to supply the yellow maize and rice that will be produced to the school feeding program and the free SHS. We will create a renaissance village which will house all the value chain players in the farming industry as part of the program”.

He revealed that when the trainees become interested in the agriculture, they will be given part of the 30,000 acres of land to start their farms and take up initiative to create agriculture entrepreneurs.

Hon. Odoom stressed that the agricultural industry will be made lucrative to the extent that young people will be chasing after the sector.
