Government Committed to Supporting Meteorological Agency to Provide Accurate Weather Reports- Minister

Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ama Pomaa Boateng has reiterated government’s commitment towards supporting activities of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet).

Hon. Ama Pomaa noted that indeed government has been supporting activities of the agency, particularly, recently when approval was given for them to make new recruits when those in the system were retiring.

She however admitted that more can be done in terms of logistics and government will work hand in hand to provide the necessary support.

Ama Pomaa made this known during the launch of ‘Meteorological Awareness Month’ under the theme ‘The Future of Weather, Climate and Water Across Generations.’

At the event, Acting Director General of the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Mr Eric Asuman said the job of the agency is critical as everyone in the country depends on weather updates to plan their lives.

He called for support from corporate bodies, organizations and individuals to get some new technological machines that can help their work.

Nana Kweigyah, President of the Canoe and Fishing Gear Owners Association of Ghana who was invited to the program, commended the GMet for their reliable weather updates which have saved their canoes from getting destroyed and going missing in stormy weathers.

He said the fisher folks in recent times rely heavily on weather updates before going to sea.
