Government Can’t Blame Anyone For Akufo-Addo’s Delay In Delivering SONA – Avedzi

The Minority in Parliament has voiced worry about President Akufo-State Addo’s of the Nation address being delayed.

It claims that the delay is due to the President’s inability to carry out the constitutional mission notwithstanding Parliament’s willingness.

The President was supposed to deliver his State of the Union message in late February, but it was rescheduled for March 3rd, then it was postponed indefinitely before that day.

The Majority Caucus in Parliament has blamed the delay on the House’s failure to schedule the President’s appearance and the Speaker’s absence, but in an interview with Citi News, deputy Minority Leader James Klutse Avedzi said the government can only blame itself for the delay.

He claimed that the majority caucus could not blame the delay on the Speaker of Parliament’s absence, especially as the Speaker had delayed his medical examination twice to be present for the address, but the President was not scheduled to speak to the House.

“The Speaker was scheduled for his medical evaluation, and as a result of this [speech], the Speaker postponed his medical examination two times until the ultimate decision was made that the president would not be there on March 3rd.” As a result, he [the speaker] had to go to the medical review.”

“Certainly, the president’s availability was going to [assist] in determining the date.” So, if the president is unavailable and the date has yet to be set, no one should be held responsible. Mr. Avedzi believes that the president should be held accountable.
