GBA Slams Voter Registration Violence, Call For Prompt Prosecution

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has criticised the violence associated with the voters registration exercise describing it as “disturbing and totally unacceptable”.

In a statement, the GBA said “these incidences very unfortunate and we hereby condemn unreservedly the actions of the perpetrators which have resulted in the untimely death of one person, attacks on officials of the EC, mayhem and confusion. Their actions are lawless and totally unacceptable.”

This comes after various acts of violence in Electoral Commission voters registration centres across the country with the recent one involving a Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson.

The GBA bemoaned the involvement of a minister in such atrocities. They expressed hope that police investigations will result “in the swift arrest and due prosecution of the offenders irrespective of status.”
