Friends Turned Political Foes: Afia Akoto, Nana Ama Dokuaa Trade Subtle Jabs On Social Media In Race For Okaikoi North Seat

The competition to determine the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the Okaikoi North Constituency appears to have abruptly transformed close friends into bitter adversaries.

Events unfolding in the Okaikoi North Constituency are poised to captivate attention, with two formidable women from the NPP, Afia Akoto and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, having submitted their nomination documents to vie for candidacy. They are prepared to compete and potentially stand as the NPP’s representatives in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.

Afia Akoto, previously the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) and current serving Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, have been engaging in veiled exchanges on social media.

“I don’t pretend to be what is not, I’ve never had to introduce any blood brother of mine as my driver to create a rich aunty perception for myself. For me what you see is what you get. I know my level since,” Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei wrote on Facebook, apparently taking a swipe at her contender.

‘This is just the doing of the Lord. The God of my fathers showed up yesterday to showcase me in a grand style. Join the grassroots landlady of OKN  Thank you so so much to all delegates that came. This was just to submit my forms and not a health walk or unity walk. Coming events…… thank you my Spiritual Fathers and your Altars…

Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them. Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord’ Afia Akoto hit back.

Afia Akoto subsequently shared an incident where individuals who had been conspiring against her ended up inadvertently calling her, which she attributed to the divine intervention of God.

“When they are conspiring against you and their own phone calls you.  Then you know there is God oooo. They will fall into the pit they dug for us. This one na God ooooo” she declared.

Theresa Lardi Awuni from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) currently holds the parliamentary seat in the Okaikwei North Constituency. She has also secured the opportunity to defend her seat when she went uncontested during the NDC primaries.
