Emulate Dr Napo — Sports Minister Urges MPs

Ghana’s Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif has encouraged his colleague Members of Parliament (MPs) to emulate the passion the Energy Minister and MP for Manhyia South has for sports development.

Speaking to the media after commissioning the Otumfuo Park together with the MP for the area on Sunday, Hon Ussif said Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh exemplified commitment to sports development.

The Minister noted that the Manhyia South MP has so far commissioned three modern astro turf pitches for the people in his constituency namely, Abbeys Park, Konadu Yiadom Park and Otumfuo Park.

‘’I am happy to say that Dr Napo is a good inspiration to some of us and I urge my colleagues to emulate his passion and invest in sports infrastructure so that we can use the same to develop our constituencies and the country as a whole’’, the Minister stated.

Addressing the media after the unveiling ceremony, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh said the artificial pitch which has been named Otumfuo Park forms part of his commitment to the nurturing of football talents in the Manhyia South constituency.

He urged the people of Dichemso in particular and the constituency in general to ensure the effective maintenance of the facility for generations yet unborn to benefit from the same.

Dr Napo commended the GETFUND and the Ministry of Youth and Sports and others for the support they provided for the construction of the astro turf facility.

‘’I am very hopeful that with the provision of these pitches in this constituency more talents would be unearthed, nurtured and trained to become useful for the country as a whole’’, the Minister stated.

Kumasi Mayor, Hon Sam Pyne commended Dr Napo for thinking about the youth of his constituency by constructing the artificial facility for their use.

He noted that the country would soon benefit from these facilities across the country as more football talents would be unearthed at places they have been constructed.

Nana Ama Ampomah, Ashanti Regional Women Organiser of the NPP told this reporter that seeing the happiness of the constituents was heartwarming.

She was hopeful other MPs would use their influences to lobby for support and construct similar facilities for their constituents.

In an earlier commemorative football match, two teams captained by Members of Parliament for Tafo and Afigya Kwabre North locked horns to compete for a glittering trophy at stake.

At the end of the game, the Collins Adomako Mensah Eleven (11) beat the Vincent Ekow Assifuah Eleven (11)  by a goal to nil to annex the coveted trophy and gold medals.
