EC Suffers More Lawsuits

There had been fresh suits against the Electoral Commission on the compilation of the new voters’ register at the Accra High Court.

This comes in the wake after the Electoral Commission(EC) had already suffered two previous lawsuits on same grounds, the compilation of a new voters register by the outfit.

The complainant Hon. Ernest Dorgbey who is also an MP for Ashaiman filed the suit praying the court ruled against the EC’s decision to compile the new register and also the court to rule in his favor that, the current voters register should be the one to be used by the EC for the December elections until there is a law in parliament to abrogate that.

There had been two suits prior to Hon. Dorgbey’s.

The difference between Mr. Norgbey’s case and the other two is that, the former’s case is an application for a judicial reviewing by the High Court to stop the EC from conducting the controverted exercise whilst the latter was for the court to exercise its power in stopping the EC from compiling the voters register but should the court allow them to, then citizens should be allowed the use of old voters cards and birth certificates for the registration process.

The two other cases are supposed to be heard in the Supreme Court 24th June whilst Mr. Norgbey’s is on the 29th of June.
