EC Deny Claims By Minority To Reduce Registration Centres

The Electoral Commission has denied claims by the Minority National Democratic Congress that the commission is knocking off over 6,000 centers for the upcoming voters’ registration exercise.

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu after a meeting between the special budget committee and the chairperson of the EC Jean Mensa told the media that the EC plans to cut down on registration centers.

However, EC commissioner in charge of administration Dr. Bossman Asare said the claim by the minority is inaccurate.

According to him the EC plans to roll out the registration exercise in phases, insisting that officials will be moving from a cluster of registration centers to others within a particular period.

“We are not reducing the existing registration centers what we are doing is that the registration is in phases. When we begin phase one we are going to tackle 20 per cent of the registration centers, phase two 20 per cent, phase three 20 per cent, phase four 20 per cent and phase five 20 per cent and that will give us 100 per cent…so nothing has changed,” he said.
