CSOs And Activists Will Find Their Voices If NDC Comes To Power – Mahama Addresses ‘Hypocrisy’

Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing victory in the 2024 general elections. While addressing supporters during his tour of the Greater Accra Region, Mahama took a subtle dig at Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), suggesting that their current silence on national issues will change once the NDC returns to power.

Mahama pointed out that under the current administration, voices that would typically critique government actions have remained muted. He noted that some individuals have refrained from speaking out, even in the face of what he described as government missteps, and attributed this to a lack of transparency and honesty in national discourse.

“There are too many praise singers today, regardless of what the government does,” Mahama remarked. “This should not be the case because truth is essential to moving this country forward.”

The NDC flagbearer stressed the importance of truth in governance, urging citizens and institutions to be consistent in their assessments of leadership, irrespective of the party in power. “If something is wrong, it is wrong, whether it’s under NDC or any other government,” he emphasized, calling out what he termed as hypocrisy in the current political climate.

Mahama believes that a change in government will see a revival of critical voices in the country’s public discourse, adding, “When we win, those who currently have toothaches and cannot speak against the ills of the government will regain their voices. Hypocrisy is holding this nation back.”

The former president’s remarks come as part of his broader campaign efforts to galvanize support for the NDC ahead of the upcoming elections.
