Court Fines NPP GHS14,000 For Wasting Its Time Over Suit Against NDC, EC

The Wenchi District Court has fined the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) GHS14,000 after it described a case brought against the Electoral Commission over the 2020 parliamentary elections in Sene West as “irredeemably incompetent.”

The court noted that the NPP had wasted its time with the petition and went ahead to fine them an amount of GHS14,000.

The court ruling paves the way for the Electoral Commission to declare the results for the parliamentary contest in the Sene West constituency.

The counting of ballot in Sene West had been under dispute after after one Christian Nukpeta snatched the ballot box when the election results were being counted.

Although Christian Nukpeta was arrested immediately, the parties involved noticed that the seal of the ballot box belonging to the NPP had been removed, leaving that of the Electoral Commission and NDC.

The NPP therefore sought an injunction on the counting and had the ballot box locked up at the Techiman Police Headquarters.
