Joy Fm’s astute sports journalist, Gary Al-Smith, who recently declared publicly his positive COVID-19 status, has hinted of dropping a bombshell about the weaknesses and lapses he has identified about the country’s case management protocols since he encountered the disease.
A few days ago, Multimedia Group Limited, the owners of Joy Fm released a statement informing the general public that five of their staff have tested positive for COVID-19.
This unfortunate but bold announcement by the media giants was immediately followed by a public statement from Al-Smith, who admitted to being one of the five persons who tested positive for the disease.
The seasoned journalist has gone on to carry out his work from the confines of the UGMC where he has been placed on admission, and has even gone out of his way to provide significant updates about his situation.
Tonight however, the prominent journalist has made a worrying statement via his social media handles, promising to expose significant lapses he has witnessed as far as Ghana’s case management is concerned.
He wrote, “Ghana’s health system, especially on COVID-19 management, is incredibly messed up. Learnt so much these past days. Tomorrow, I begin writing and speaking about the lapses I have witnessed. If you’re a government communicator or are paid to insult people, get ready to earn your salary. Otherwise, I’m doing well”.
It is unclear the lapses Mr. Al-Smith intends to expose, however what is clear is that the journalist has been one of the most credible information peddlers as far as Ghana’s encounter with the novel coronavirus is concerned. We hope that whatever it is he has identified, the powers that be will take note and act accordingly.
