Bawumia Leads NPP 2028 Flagbearer Race, But Internal Competition Heats Up – Global InfoAnalytics Poll

Despite Bawumia’s strong position, Mussa Dankwa, Executive Director and Head of Research at Global InfoAnalytics, cautioned that the Vice President should not be complacent. Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, Dankwa noted that Bawumia’s current figures are lower than expected, signaling a tougher battle than in previous contests.

A recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics indicates that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the frontrunner in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2028 flagbearer race. However, the findings suggest a highly competitive contest ahead, with Bawumia’s lead appearing less decisive than anticipated.

According to the survey, Bawumia commands 48.1% support among party delegates, followed by Kennedy Agyapong (25.1%), Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (12.5%), former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong (7.2%), Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong (4.1%), and former MP Francis Addai Nimo (3.0%).

“Bawumia should not be satisfied with these numbers; they are too low,” Dankwa stated. “This suggests the competition will be much fiercer than last time, and he still has significant work to do to consolidate his position.”

The poll also highlighted shifts in support among other key contenders. Kennedy Agyapong, who secured second place in the NPP’s 2023 primaries, appears to have lost some ground, with Dankwa attributing this to Dr. Adutwum’s growing influence.

“Kennedy Agyapong should be performing better, but it seems Adutwum has made inroads into his support base,” Dankwa observed.

With the NPP’s next flagbearer election less than three years away, the poll underscores a dynamic and evolving political landscape within the party. While Bawumia remains the favorite, the emerging competition suggests that the race is far from settled, setting the stage for an intense and closely watched contest.
