Bagbin Sets Up 7-Member Panel To Investigate Leaked Plot Against IGP Dampare

In response to the demand made by the minority caucus of Parliament, Speaker Alban Bagbin has instructed the formation of a special committee comprising seven members. The committee’s purpose is to conduct a comprehensive investigation into a leaked tape that purportedly reveals plans by the government to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, with the intention of influencing the upcoming 2024 General Elections.

The establishment of the committee aims to ascertain the authenticity or credibility of the leaked tape, as requested by the minority caucus.

The committee will be comprised of three Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority caucuses, with the assistance of a technical expert to aid their investigation.

The Speaker has directed that the names of the three members from each caucus be revealed within a week.

In the meantime, the government has vehemently denied the accusations of any covert plan to remove the Inspector General of Police before the 2024 general elections.

During a press conference held in Parliament, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery dismissed the allegations as unfounded and baseless. He urged the public to disregard them completely.

The minister emphasized that there is no scheme or plot to target the Inspector General of Police. He stressed the significance of preserving the integrity and independence of the police force, particularly during the electoral process.
