The majority leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has implied that the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin deliberately absented himself from Parliament in order to reduce the numbers of the NPP caucus.
The Parliament of Ghana was due to have a crucial vote on the adoption or rejection of the controversial e-levy yesterday.
However, chaos ensued when the first deputy speaker, Joe Osei Owusu, who presided over the house in the absence of the Speaker, attempted to vote.
The house degenerated into violence and proceedings was prematurely adjourned.
However, in an interview with Joy News, Majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu laid the blame at the feet of Mr. Alban Bagbin, whose absence from the house at that crucial time, he described as an attempt to deliberately frustrate government business.
According to Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, all his calls to Mr. Bagbin were ignored, including his text messages.
Meanwhile, the house is expected to reconvene today to resume deliberations on the matter.
