Just In: E-Levy Still In Limbo As Parliament Adjourns ‘Sine Die’ – Bagbin Conspicuously Absent As NDC MPs Refuse To Back Down

The controversial electronic transactions levy has still not found a way to materialize as both sides of Parliament refuse to make concessions on their entrenched positions.

Parliament, after it reconvened this morning following yesterday’s unfortunate violence, has had to adjourn ‘sine die’ following a motion moved by majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and seconded by minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu.

Moving the motion for adjournment, Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu indicated that it will be better to adjourn sine die (indefinitely) until cooler heads prevailed.

Seconding the motion, minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu was of the view that since the appropriations bill had already been passed, Government will have access to funds to run the country.

The much controversial electronic transactions levy, though, continues to be in limbo, at least for the time being.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin was absent from the house when it reconvened this morning, with first deputy speaker, Joe Osei Owusu presiding in his absence.
