‘As You Preach Peace, Please Preach Justice Too’ – Mahama Tells Clergy

At the funeral of former Information Minister John Tia, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserted that the upcoming 2024 election will be a critical contest between the people of Ghana and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mahama emphasized that the NDC is committed to the election not for its own benefit but to serve the interests of Ghana. He highlighted the necessity for a change in leadership to address the crises that he attributes to the current NPP administration.

“Because John was a true party man, I will be a bit political,” Mahama stated. “We are determined to win this election, not for ourselves, not for the NDC, but for Ghana. This election is between Ghana and the NPP, not NPP and NDC, because we need to reset our nation and rescue it from the crisis it has been plunged into by the NPP administration.”

The former President expressed confidence in the NDC’s ability to secure victory in the 2024 elections, assuring the public that any potential violence will not come from his party. He stressed the NDC’s commitment to peaceful and fair elections.

Mahama also called on the clergy to play a vital role in ensuring a just electoral process. “As you preach peace during and after the election, you should also preach justice,” he urged, underscoring the importance of impartiality and fairness. He affirmed that the NDC will firmly resist any attempts by the Electoral Commission or the governing party to manipulate the election results.

As the political atmosphere intensifies, Mahama’s statements set the stage for a highly contested and closely monitored election, with the NDC positioning itself as the defender of the people’s interests against the incumbent NPP.
