After Failing Woefully In Galamsey Fight, Akufo-Addo Now Says He Will Fight It Again For Ghanaians To Know He Is Serious

Action, they say, speaks louder than words. Except you are President Akufo-Addo, of course, who appears to place more premium on words than actions.

For a President who enjoyed massive goodwill at the start of his Presidency, especially with his citizen and not spectator speech, it is surprising how low his goodwill has sunk in just a matter of 4 years.

Having pledged to put an end to galamsey which Threatens to destroy the very water we drink, it is fair to say that the country experienced considerable success in the fight when the government showed impetus.

Unfortunately, this was not to continue as government suddenly lost the commitment to fight the canker when they suddenly realized they needed money to fund their re-election campaign.

This derailed all the gains the country had made, and took us two steps back after the initial giant leap forward.

Now that the pressure is mounting on him again to keep his promise, even from his own Chief, the Okyehene, President Akufo-Addo has suddenly found the voice to make another promise to end galamsey.

Addressing the Okyehene and the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council at the Jubilee House when they paid a courtesy call on him, President Akufo-Addo assured that his government will fight the canker once again, this time with more seriousness.

In the interest of the country, we hope the President will keep his promise this time.
