Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwabena Agyei Agyepong says he represents the new dawn that the ruling party desperately needs to retain power in 2024.

He said there is a crying need within the party for “fresh energy” after 16 years of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia ticket.

“I am going to be dramatically different and I think after 16 years of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia ticket on top of the NPP, there is a crying need for fresh energy, new set of ideas and I think KAA (Kwabena Agyei Agyepong), I represent the new dawn that the NPP can use to win power in 2024.”

The NPP flagbearer aspirant expressed these sentiments in an interview on Urban Blend with Blakk Rasta on 3FM.

Mr Agyepong, who was suspended by NPP as General Secretary in 2015 ahead of the historic victory of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia ticket in 2016, was concerned about the “waste” in the country.

He said Ghana is in debt because the managers cannot balance revenue with expenditure.

“It is important that we cut our coat according to the size of cloth that is available to us, so you can talk about generating more revenue, it is easier to start cutting the waste in Ghana and there is a lot of waste in Ghana.”

He bemoaned the delay of the Auditor-General’s report, indicating that he will not hesitate in firing people who are implicated in the report.

For him, if the God-given resources of the country are controlled properly, there will be no need to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for instance for bailout.
