Accept E-Levy As A Way To Grow The Economy And Reduce Unemployment – Ghanaians Told

Mr Charles Bissue, the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Western Regional Secretary, has urged Ghanaians to accept the controversial electronic levy (e-levy), claiming that it will assist boost the economy and alleviate the burden of youth unemployment.

Mr Bissue, speaking to the media in Takoradi, decried the fact that many Ghanaians find ways to avoid paying taxes.

Statistics showed that only 4% of Ghana’s population paid taxes, according to him.

This, according to the Regional Secretary, was owing to the belief that the taxes collected had not been used for the intended reasons.

He described the e-levy as a deliberate move to help the local economy recover from the economic damage caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

As a result, he urged Ghanaians to support such initiatives, arguing that they would help the country achieve its goals of increasing the economy and reducing unemployment.

Mr Bissue pointed out that a number of Ghanaians, including the minority in Parliament, had rejected a number of measures that have benefited the people.

He notably referenced the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and other beneficiary schemes, which he claimed were opposed by the minority but had positive effects on Ghanaians’ lives.

“The NPP has always spoken the truth and reality on the ground, whilst the opposition party has always spoken the opposite,” he added.
