Prof Gyampo Defends Naana Agyeman Over Ahwoi’s Book

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Yaw Gyampo, has backed NDC’s running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for writing the foreword of the much talked about book, “Working with Rawlings” by Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi.

The book since it’s release has courted a lot of controversy especially in the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) with some people criticizing Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyeman’s role as the foreword writer of the book.

According to these critics, by accepting to write the foreword, John Mahama’s running mate has endorsed the content of the book.

But Prof Gyampo has rubbished these claims saying those attacking her do not necessarily know the essence of forewords.

“It must also be noted that, foreword writers aren’t necessarily subscribers of the views of authors,” he wrote on Monday, August 10.

“You can simply tell this by reading the content of the foreword. I have read the foreword as an academic, and I am still wondering why and how anyone who knows what forewords are, will have qualms about the author. The author of the foreword of this book is a big deal to only those who either do not know the purpose of a foreword, or have simply not read what is contained in that section.

“In academia, the fact that one writes a foreword of a book, doesn’t make the author guilty of the content of the book, simplicita,” he said.

Though Prof Gyampo stated that the timing of the release of the book is politically “problematic”, he also added that it makes business sense for the author as it will increase sales especially as we approach the 2020 December polls.
