After Helping Them To Win Their Seats, They Have Shunned Me To Support Bawumia – Ken Lashes At NPP MPs

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a presidential contender within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed deep frustration and resentment towards certain ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs) who have declined his request for support in his bid to lead the party.

Agyapong alleges that he has extended assistance to numerous party members in the past, but they are now throwing their support behind Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia instead of backing his own presidential ambitions, essentially treating him as an outcast.

In an interview, Agyapong remarked, “I am profoundly disappointed, especially by those who are not ministers, whom I have aided. My wife advises me to try and manage my anger. I am deeply aggrieved.”

He went on to clarify that some MPs have faced threats of potential competition if they don’t align with a specific candidate’s support.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong specifically mentioned MP Alfred Obeng-Boateng of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, stating that he had personally provided assistance and campaigned on his behalf in the past. However, Agyapong claims that Mr. Obeng-Boateng is now actively working against his presidential campaign.

Expressing his disappointment, Agyapong said, “I campaigned for him in Bibiani; I have no fear of Alfred Obeng. I even left his place at 1 am, and now he tells me that I don’t know how to speak. I can never forgive that individual.”

Agyapong described certain NPP MPs as ungrateful and expressed profound disappointment in how they are treating him despite his past assistance and support. He made it clear that forgiving them would be a challenging task, and their actions would have consequences after the party’s primary contest scheduled for November 4, 2023.

He also expressed dismay over MPs who actively discourage delegates from voting for him, including Obeng-Boateng. Agyapong stated, “I campaigned for this MP to win, and he calls delegates and advises them not to vote for Ken Agyapong but instead vote for number 2 on the ballot. For him to claim I speak recklessly, I can never forgive him.”

Agyapong also mentioned that many ministerial appointees in the Ashanti region owed their positions to his influence but have now turned their backs on him, leaving him perplexed about what has gone wrong.

Additionally, he directed his anger towards party executives, especially in the Central Region, issuing warnings and challenges. He was heard saying on live radio, “I’m challenging Chairman Kutin and his regional executives. I’m going to confront them… If they misbehave and Dr. Bawumia wins again in the Central Region, they’ll witness the consequences in 2024… They better deliver 100% support for me in the Central Region, or I’ll make them face repercussions.”

Agyapong’s grievances and disappointment towards MPs, ministers, and party executives who have not supported his presidential aspirations underscore the internal divisions within the ruling NPP. As the party approaches its November 4, 2023, primaries, it remains to be seen how Agyapong’s anger and resentful feelings will impact his campaign and support within the party.
