The Ghana Police Service have reported that they have arrested four individuals in connection with the recent robbery and murder of a police officer during an attack on a bullion van in Ablekuma.

According to the announcement made on Sunday, July 16, 2023, one of the suspects was apprehended on Saturday, July 15, 2023, while the other three are currently in custody and assisting with the ongoing investigations.

The police issued a statement assuring the public that more details regarding the case would be disclosed in the future.

The cooperation and rapid coordination between the Ghana Police Service and Togo Interpol were instrumental in apprehending the third suspect, Blessing Njoma. He was located in Asigame market, situated in Togo’s capital, Lome.

Although no suspicious items were found during Njoma’s arrest, further examination at Togo Interpol Headquarters revealed old bullet scars on his right shoulder. When questioned, Njoma claimed that these injuries were acquired during a fight in Nigeria back in 2014.

Authorities are currently making efforts to search Blessing Njoma’s residence in Togo before extraditing him to Ghana to face charges related to the bullion van robbery.

The tragic incident, known as the Ablekuma Fan milk bullion van robbery, occurred on June 14, 2023, and resulted in the death of Lance Corporal Callistus Amoah. The robbers targeted the van’s contents but were intercepted by the police, leading to the fatal shooting of Lance Corporal Amoah during the confrontation.

Lance Corporal Amoah’s funeral was held on Saturday, July 16, 2023. Meanwhile, the other two suspects, Benjamin Ojogbe and Rashid Abdul, have been remanded into police custody by the Kaneshie District Court. Ojogbe and Abdul were reportedly arrested at Circle Railways while allegedly enjoying themselves in the early morning hours.

The accused individuals are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder and the murder of Lance Corporal Callistus Amoah. The case is set to continue on June 28, 2023, as investigators gather further evidence and information related to the incident.

The Ghana Police Service is fully committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in the bullion van robbery are brought to justice.
