You’ve Failed Woefully – Amnesty Int’l Slams Gender Ministry

Following the lynching of a 90 year old woman in Kafaba for witchcraft, the Amnesty International has chided the Gender Ministry for woefully failing to clamp down on attacks on old women in the North constantly accused of witchcraft.

Speaking to Class News, Country Director of Amnesty International Mr Robert Akoto Amoafo said, “It’s important that we hear the voice, especially of the Minister of Gender, Child and Social protection, who, we believe, can do more and we believe has done woefully, especially in the space of ensuring that elderly women, issues also surrounding the witch camps, have not been addressed properly and we don’t see the effort of the ministry toward that situation.”

Since the viral video of the unfortunate incidence, there have been various condemnations from civil organisations and calls for the perpetrators to be brought to book.

Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh has announced a a reward of GH¢2,000 to anyone who helps with information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

The brains behind her attack, Sanjo, Hajia Filini, Teacher Aliu, Bumaye, Ashley and Manafo have been on the run since the incident.
