You Will Be Remembered As a True Statesman And A Champion Of Peace – Ya Na Tells Akufo-Addo

The King of Dagbon, Ndan Ya Na Abukari II, has paid a heartfelt tribute to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, commending him for his pivotal role in restoring peace and security to the Dagbon Kingdom. Speaking at the Gbewa Palace in Yendi during President Akufo-Addo’s courtesy call as part of his farewell tour of the Northern Region, the Ya Na praised the President for his dedication to reconciliation and unity.

In a glowing eulogy, the Ya Na expressed gratitude for the President’s contributions, stating, “May your legacy continue to inspire generations to come. You will always be cherished and remembered as a true statesman and champion of peace and security.” He acknowledged the President’s selfless efforts in supporting Dagbon through a difficult period of conflict and thanked him for his commitment to lasting peace.

Reflecting on Akufo-Addo’s tenure, the King mentioned the President’s decisive role in resolving the long-standing dispute between the Abudu and Andani families. The mediation process, which involved the Committee of Eminent Kings led by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, played a crucial role in bringing closure to the Dagbon crisis following the tragic assassination of the late Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II. This paved the way for the performance of the funerals of the two late Yaa Naas, a significant step towards reconciliation in the region.

“Your continued support ensured my installation as the new Yaa Naa, and your sustained guidance has maintained peace in our beloved Dagbon,” the Ya Na remarked, highlighting the unprecedented peace the region has enjoyed under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership. He further expressed the profound gratitude of the people of Dagbon for the President’s unwavering commitment to the region’s stability, adding, “We cannot thank you enough and pray that the good Lord blesses you appropriately.”

President Akufo-Addo, in turn, expressed his appreciation to the King for his role in ensuring that peace has been sustained in Dagbon. Addressing the people gathered at the Gbewa Palace, the President reiterated his pride in being the third leader to serve two consecutive terms in office, following in the footsteps of former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings.

During his address, President Akufo-Addo also used the opportunity to seek the support of the Ya Na and the people of Dagbon in backing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming presidential election. “Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a competent, knowledgeable, and above all, honest man. I believe he is the right person to continue the work I have started, and he is well prepared to be President,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
