Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, a former Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) representing Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region, has accused Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), of plotting to his defeat in the recently concluded primaries.
Muntaka Mubarak has alleged that certain individuals within the NDC’s leadership, specifically led by Asiedu Nketiah, conspired to remove him from Parliament by targeting his position as Chief Whip. Although Muntaka did not explicitly name anyone involved, he pointed out that the plot was orchestrated by individuals within the party’s leadership.
Earlier this year, Asiedu Nketiah was accused of orchestrating the removal of Haruna Iddrisu, Muntaka Mubarak, and James Avedzi from their positions as Leaders of the Minority bench. According to Muntaka, this action was part of a broader attempt to remove him from Parliament.
“They forget that God is not their village chief,” he said after he convincingly won his primaries this week.
“I can tell you, it was part of the strategy to get me out. No political person won’t say that wasn’t part of the strategy to get me out. Avedzi wasn’t contesting again, Haruna didn’t have any contenders and I was the only one who had a contender, so to have done that at that time was part of the strategy to get me out” he said.
“But like I keep saying, God is not their village Chief, God doesn’t hate people because you hate them.” He added.
Muntaka Mubarak secured a resounding victory in the elections, receiving 1,063 valid votes out of the total votes cast. His main competitor, Masawudu Mubarick, trailed behind with 735 votes.
