Prof. Ransford Gyampo, a lecturer at the University Of Ghana political science department has taken on Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. J.O.Y. Mante for tagging critics of government’s agenda 111 project as witches.
Rev Mante said it’ll take only a witch to oppose such project considering the mass poverty and poor health infrastructures around the country.
“My biggest surprise Mr. Chairman, is that with the poverty that we live in, someone offers to build 111 health centres and some people are still angry. Is this not a case of witchcraft? Because I can never understand, we allow politics to eat too much into our affairs,” he said at the opening of an upgraded health facility belonging to the Church – the Assin Praso Presby Hospital.
However, Gyampo believes Christian leaders who have benefitted from political appointment must not use their platforms to suppressing dissenting views.
He said “It cannot be part of Christianity for any man of God, who may have benefited from political appointment, to attempt to use religion to silence voices of dissent. You can agree, but I can disagree, and we are all Christians, PLEASE”.
