The important player in the Premier League title competition between Arsenal and Manchester City, according to former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer, is Thomas Partey.
Following Arsenal’s victory over Aston Villa and Manchester City’s draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Shearer made the remark on BBC’s Match of the Day.
If Partey can return from injury, Shearer believes Arsenal would have a good chance to defeat the defending champions this season.
Partey has been essential for Arsenal this season as one of the best defensive midfielders in the league. But, the £200,000 per week star is presently out with an injury and was not there for Arsenal’s triumph over Villa.
Shearer thinks Arsenal will have a decent chance of winning the title if they can keep their key players healthy and get Partey back as soon as possible.
“I know Partey is out injured at the minute. If Arsenal can get him back and have a little bit of luck between now and the end of the season, keeping their main big hitters free from injury, I think they will do it. Yeah.”
In 18 Premier League games this season for the Gunners, he has two goals scored.
With 54 points after 23 games, Arsenal leads the Premier League standings by two points above Manchester City, who has 52 points after 24 games.
