There has been calls from people in the Central Region specifically in the capital, Cape Coast demanding for an airport. To them, it is the major destination for tourists who visit the country from abroad.
Responding to their calls, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo in an interview on ATL FM in Cape Coast monitored by Mynewsgh, he said;
“This is a place which is about one hour 30minutes from the capital, Accra where there is a major international airport. Besides there is Takoradi which is also very close to Cape Coast.
“The response of government should not just be that the people said they need an airport so we’re going to do it but rather the response of government should be that the matter has thoroughly been examined and the need has been established.”
“That is the responsibility of the Ministry of Aviation to determine which is what they’re also doing. The same for Koforidua from the region which I come from which is also another regional location very close to Accra. So we have to be able to decide for ourselves whether the need for an airport can be justified.
“We have an airport in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi and it’s left with us to decide whether we need an additional airport in the South where we already have two airports along the coast,” He said.
